Book 3: The Night Circus

Hello, everybody!  It's been a long time since our last book club, but I finally picked a new book.  It's called The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern.

Blurb from Amazon:
The circus arrives without warning. No announcements precede it. It is simply there, when yesterday it was not. Within the black-and-white striped canvas tents is an utterly unique experience full of breathtaking amazements. It is called Le Cirque des RĂªves, and it is only open at night.
But behind the scenes, a fierce competition is underway—a duel between two young magicians, Celia and Marco, who have been trained since childhood expressly for this purpose by their mercurial instructors. Unbeknownst to them, this is a game in which only one can be left standing, and the circus is but the stage for a remarkable battle of imagination and will. Despite themselves, however, Celia and Marco tumble headfirst into love—a deep, magical love that makes the lights flicker and the room grow warm whenever they so much as brush hands.
True love or not, the game must play out, and the fates of everyone involved, from the cast of extraordinary circus performers to the patrons, hang in the balance, suspended as precariously as the daring acrobats overhead.

Hope everyone can read this one, it looks really good :)

Book 2: Thirteen Reasons Why by Jay Asher

Our second book will be Thirteen Reasons Why by Jay Asher!
Blurb from the back cover:

Clay Jensen returns home from school to find a mysterious box with his name on it lying on his porch. Inside he discovers thirteen cassette tapes recorded by Hannah Baker, his classmate and crush who committed suicide two weeks earlier.
On tape, Hannah explains that there are thirteen reasons why she decided to end her life. Clay is one of them. If he listens, he'll find out how he made the list.
Through Hannah and Clay's dual narratives, debut author Jay Asher weaves an intricate and heartrending story of confusion and desperation that will deeply affect teen readers.
I read it a few years ago and it was good!  I think I will set a date for three-ish weeks from now for our next meeting, so people can figure out when they need to start it to read it by the next meeting.  Everyone invite your friends!  Come to the meetings!  You don't want to miss another awesome meeting's like this week's (there were zombie-themed cupcakes!).  See you at the next meeting :)

Also to look at:

These books are 'companions' to our first book, The Forest of Hands and Teeth.  For the Amazon summary and info, go here and here.  According to our fellow book-clubber Maria, they're really good!

Meeting Numero Dos

How is everyone liking The Forest of Hands and Teeth?  I know some people haven't read it yet, but I am setting a date two weeks from now so everyone has time to read it.  The next meeting will be Tuesday, October 4th.  In case you didn't realize yet, The Forest of Hands and Teeth involves 'the unconsecrated,' aka ZOBMIES!  So I shall provide Zombie-themed food, which will be delicious of course.  Bring the book if you want, and your brain (to feed the zombies!)  See you then!

First Book!

The first book we will be reading is The Forest of Hands and Teeth by Carrie Ryan.

We will also have a guest speaker at the next meeting by name of Katlin Brown.  She will be reading her inspirational children's book entitled "Shelly the Celly."

So comment when you get your book or when you are almost done so we can figure out when our next meeting should be.  And if you are commenting about the book, MAKE SURE YOU SAY IF THERE ARE SPOILERS!  Don't give anything away please.

See you at the next meeting!

About the blog...

I know that there are a lot of clubs, sports, jobs, super-cool parties, etc going on after school, so that's why the blog is here!  If you ever miss book club but want to participate in the next meeting, come here.  I will post the title and author of our newest book, so you can see what we are reading next as well as discuss our last book in the comments without going to the meeting.

I would also like to add a list of our book ideas on here as the year goes on, as well as a ranking of our top five books or something like that :)

First Meeting!!

Hello everyone!  Book Club is going to have it's very first meeting on Wednesday, September 7th at 2:30 in Mrs. Willertz's room (room 142).  Please come!

At the first meeting we'll just be talking about when we want to meet, how often, and things like that.  We will also be picking our first book, so bring suggestions!  Anyone is welcome to suggest a book, and we will vote on which of the suggestions we want to read.  Yes, there will be food.  No, you will not have to read yet :)

At the second meeting and all the ones after, we will talk about the last book we just read and then pick a new book.  I think it should be really fun!  This isn't meant to be a serious club or anything--we will just be talking about what we liked and what we didn't, our favorite characters, our favorite parts, and whatever else we want to.

So please come if you like reading!  See you there!
